Pioneer in the Big Apple is Praxis gallery. Miguel Kehayoglu (1929-2009), in 1977 opened Praxis in a petit hotel in Buenos Aires. Ten years later, it set up its headquarters in New York, on a fourth floor in Midtown. “For every artist, exhibiting in New York is a dream. Exhibiting at Praxis has that flavor of an accomplished objective, but in a gallery that speaks the same language, that accompanies and contains,” says Justina Gómez Romero, sales director of the space located on the corner of 20 St and 10 St, in the heart of Chelsea. just below the High Line, a few blocks from the Whitney Museum. Opposite, the headquarters of the prestigious Mexican gallery Kurimanzutto has just opened its doors.
“It took us 29 years to get to where we are. It is a huge effort. We never give up and we are always innovating. We have a daily relationship with Praxis Buenos Aires, to think about how to improve and give more opportunities to our artists,” says Gómez Romero, leading a 100% Argentine and female team. “We stand out among the more than 200 galleries in the neighborhood for our Argentineness, for our joy and warmth. We work with Argentine and Latin artists based in New York. We do not receive samples from Buenos Aires,” he says.
