Melissa Misla

Melissa Misla was born in 1989, in New York. Misla (she/her) is a queer mixed media artist specifically interested in the Nuyorican experience. Misla’s work offers a personalized and collective account of the Latinx home and NYC apartments. Her paintings layer collages and found materials to explore the culturally dualistic environments in which she was raised. Misla holds a BFA, supported by the first Kossok Fellowship Award from Hunter College, and an MFA from Queens College. Her work has been exhibited with The Latinx Project, at the NY Latin American Art Triennial, and as an emerging artist at the Heckscher Museum. Represented by Praxis Gallery, Misla’s work has most recently been shown in a group exhibition with El Museo del Barrio entitled Domesticanx, as well as a solo exhibition in the John Little Barn at Duck Creek in East Hampton.
