My work is a search of the Self, an exercise to eliminate imposed histories, cultures and ideas. Now, after many years I realize how everything I studied before merges with my work. Fashion gave me the feeling of pattern and textile; filmmaking the tools to think photography through storytelling and not only as single and isolated frames; colorimetry the knowledge of how to manipulate color and finally photography the technical tools on how to translate visually an idea.
The experience of migrating from my country has become a fertile ground for creativity and exploration, making me think about the idea of selfhood, identity and home in a foreign space. Being a woman in this generation also gave me the strength to embrace beauty in its more profound way. My eyes are guided by all these attitudes and states of mind, which are depicted when the camera is lifted to the eye.
I’m interested in the new visual hegemony of the intangible world of social media which is consumed only virtually by viewers, making us remain in an imaginary state of an unrealizable desire. Food as well as the way we dress have historically been charged with cultural identity, which we symbolically ingest through its consumption. I want to explore the elements that (re)define our generation, which is constantly evolving to a place we haven’t understood yet. The invisible moment that an image reveals your thoughts is what defines photography for me.
