Candelaria Fernández Coya

Candelaria Fernández Coya was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1991. She currently lives and works in Paris (France). She has a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Combined Arts from the University of Buenos Aires. She carried out a construction clinic with Ernesto Ballesteros and Leila Tschopp. She was part of the Artistas x artistas program in the 2021 edition. Among her individual exhibitions is Refucilos (Fundación El Mirador, Buenos Aires, 2023). She participated in the group exhibitions Misshapes (Praxis, New York, 2024), ¿Cuántos artilugios componen una piedra? (Fundación El Mirador, 2024), among others.

Her works are composed of landscapes and characters that are the product of a great accumulation of pictorial references. In Candelaria’s drawings, Greek mythology, Renaissance iconography and other artistic allusions converge. She paints from left to right, as if she was writing. She does not sketch or erase, so nothing is premeditated and all trust is placed in the unconscious flow of the line. The choice of the pencil as a tool and its unidirectional use allow her to generate an illusion of a woven plot.
