PRESS | Fashion Network | An Argentine art gallery brings Latin American textile art to New York

By Ayelén Iñigo

The Praxis art gallery, which was founded in Buenos Aires and later opened its own space in New York, opened an exhibition of textile art by Chilean artist Josefina Concha E. on April 13 in the American city.

Under the name “Skin Buffet”, the exhibition proposes a meeting, a textile encounter of “special guests” with sewn fabrics, small drawings and paintings that are each inspired by strange objects, familiar to the artist or works by other artists.

“They are portals and barriers between the outside and an inner world, which give access to emotions that cannot be separated from the deep, inner layers in which they reside. In particular, the fabrics are like skins that warm and protect the flesh of the canvas on which they are woven, expelling vibrations and embodying the slow and natural movements of the environment,” explained the curator of the exhibition, Soledad García Saavedra.

The exhibition will be open to the public until June 2. The idea is to then display it in Buenos Aires in May 2024, within the iconic Praxis space at 1311 Arenales Street in the Argentine capital.

With more than 30 years of history, Praxis is one of the leading galleries dedicated to giving international visibility to Latin American art both in Buenos Aires and New York.
