Frieze London celebrated its 20th anniversary in Regent’s Park, London. This art week highlighted emerging artists and leading figures from the contemporary art world, in one of the largest and most prestigious events worldwide.
In 2023, Praxis resumed its participation in international fairs, reaping notable successes, such as in Zona Maco, Mexico, where Josefina Concha E. (Latina, 1985) won the Casa Wabi residency award with her outstanding textile art. Now, at Frieze London, Praxis presents Simonette Quamina (Latina, 1982), who has managed to completely sell out her exhibition on the first day of the fair.
Simonette Quamina presented her work comprised of a variety of collage and printmaking techniques, including woodcut, chine-collé, collagraph, and embossing. Her large-scale collages and their dark, monochromatic grey tones simultaneously conceal and reveal intimate narratives, compelling the viewer to actively view and therefore engage more deeply with the work. Simonette’s collage prints are freed from the edges of the paper and the layered arrangement of the printing techniques extends beyond the margins of each work, creating a unique, landscape-like form.
It seems that Simonette, with the support of Praxis , managed to capture the London public, taking her art to the next level.
