Warp and Weft: Technologies Within Textiles. Josefina Concha at The Shepherd in Detroit.

Warp and Weft: Technologies Within Textiles was inaugurated, a group show at the Sheperd Detroit by Library Street Collective, curated by Allison Glenn and with the participation of the artist Josefina Concha E.

This exhibition explores how contemporary artists are experimenting with new technologies, reimagining materials, and infusing inherited, familial, and ancestral knowledge into their practices. Through textiles, they convey powerful narratives and allegories, weaving together histories, cultures, and identities.

“Drawing inspiration from the natural world, rippling lines cascade along Josefina Concha E.’s towering ten-foot Complementary series Naranjo I (Complementary series Orange I) (2023). Utilizing brightly colored thread and the zigzag stitch, Concha E. develops irregular weaves that allude to both painting and sculptural forms.”

The exhibition will be on view from January 25 to May 3, 2025.
